Rio Open Tennis Tournament

The Rio Open, also known as Rio Open presented by Claro for sponsorship reasons, is an annual outdoor clay court tennis tournament based in Rio, Brazil. As an ATP Tour-sanctioned event, it is part of the ATP 500 series of events and will be held at the Jockey Club Brasileiro. This event is the only ATP 500 in South America and the only tournament situated in Brazil. This year marks the 6th edition of the event and thus it is a newer edition to the tour. Claro, the title sponsor of the Rio Open is a Mexican telecommunication group.

ATP RIO Open 2024 Results

In the singles, Argentine Tennis player Sebastian Baez becomes 10th Rio open champion. In the final, he defeated fellow star Mariano Navone in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. He has won 1st ATP 500 title and 5 ATP tour title in his career now.

In the doubles, Nicolás Barrientos and Rafael Matos defeated Austrian pair Lucas Miedler and Alexander Erler in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

In Single champinship, British star Cameron Norrie registers thrilling win over Carlos Alcaraz to win fifth ATP title. Cameron Norrie got the 2nd win of his career against a Top 2 player by beating Carlos Alcaraz 5-7 6-4 7-5 to win the ATP 500 Rio title, the 5th trophy of his career.

Máximo Gonzalez and Andrés Molteni became CHAMPIONS of the doubles title of Rio Open 2023 by beating Sebastian Cabal🇨🇴 and Marcelo Melo 6-1 7-6 in the final.

History

The Rio Open is a recent addition to the ATP Tour with their inaugural edition held in 2014. It started off as an ATP and WTA event but the woman’s event was discontinued in 2016. Like many other tournaments impacted by Covid 19, the Rio Open was canceled in 2021. There were plans to switch to a hardcourt following the 2019 edition but the clay court was kept instead. The last time an ATP event was held in Rio before the Rio Open was the Rio de Janiero Open back in 1889. The event only had 3 editions before cancellation.

The Rio Open has had 9 editions so far with some notable tennis players. The best of these has to be Rafael Nadal, one of the Big Three who headlined the inaugural edition alongside David Ferrer. More recently, Carlos Alcaraz has become synonymous with the Rio Open after his victory in 2022. The former world no. 1 became the youngest ATP 500 winner since the category had been established, making tennis history. With his return confirmed, this Rio Open is sure to be a spectacle.

The total financial commitment for the tournament was set at $2,271,715, of which $2,100,230 has been reserved for the prize money distribution. The event will have 32 singles and 16 doubles draws that will be released as the tournament progresses. 4 qualifiers will join 28 Main draw players in 1st round of event. Total 16 qualifiers will compete each other for 4 slots in 1st round.

Rio Open 2024 Dates, Schedule

The Rio Open will be held across a week from 19-25 February. The qualifying round set on the weekend prior from the 17th through to the 18th.

The Rio Open presented by Claro is held on the eight clay courts, including a 6,200-seat Stadium, of the Jockey Club Brasileiro. Tickets for the Rio Open are available online from following links. A regular ticket applies for 1 day/night session. Each day is divided into 2 sessions, except for the last 3 days of the event. Package deals are also available for different stages of the event.
