Tennis Courts Specialist (Hard, Clay, Grass)
Each surface has its advantages and disadvantages, favoring players with suitable play styles. Thus as talented and skilled as each player (Specially in the Big Three) are, they all have their weaknesses and strengths with varying performances on each court surface. For example, Nadal might be the King of Clay with 14 major titles on the clay court, he only has 6 titles on a hard court whereas Djokovic, the supposed King of Hard Court has 13 major titles on a hard court but only 2 at the Rolland Garros. And Federer can be considered as a Grass king. Luckily for us however, it appears each member of the Big Three plays best on different court surfaces. In this Article we will read Tennis Courts Specialist Hard – Clay – Grass.
Clay Court Specialist
Among the Kings and Queens of Tennis, probably the most well-known is Rafael Nadal, the undisputed King of Clay. With his iconic long groundstrokes and heavy topspin that fits perfectly with what the clay court demands, he is widely considered to be the best male clay court player of all time and he has multiple astounding records on the surface to prove it. He holds the record for the longest winning streak by a male player on a single surface in the Open Era; 81 matches over 2 years.
Nadal also holds the record for most clay court titles with a record 14 major titles at the French Open which is played on clay courts. He has only lost 3 times at the event throughout his career. Though Novak Djokovic also has great showings on clay, Nadal’s win percentage of 97.4% is the highest among any player on any court surface. He truly deserves 2 points for his complete domination on the court surface.
Hard Court Specialist
The most common surface type on the ATP Tour; hard courts and their play is what you picture when thinking of competitive tennis; long rallies and a quick play style. Unlike clay courts, there is no “King” of the hard courts but with the help of basic statistics, we can infer that it’s current no. 1 Novak Djokovic. Roger has more titles and more recorded wins on hard courts, Novak has the greater win percentage at a record 84.6% on hard courts. He also holds the most number of Grand Slam wins at the Hard Court (Australia10 times and US 3 times).
Most Masters tournaments are also played on hardcourts where once again Djokovic holds a record number of titles. A close second would be Roger Federer (6 Australian Open and 5 US open). We would may give each point to both as both have impressive records on Hard court. Maybe in future Djokovic will be considered as a King of Hard Courts
Grass Court Specialist
Lastly, the King of Grass is now-retired Roger Federer although his title may soon shift toward Djokovic given he has the greater match-win percentage at 89.6%. Roger Federer is slightly behind Djokovic with an 88.2% win-loss percentage but what gives him the edge is his 8 Wimbledon singles titles, which is 1 title more than Djokovic. He currently holds the record for most Wimbledon titles in the Open Era but given that he has retired. Djokovic is well in line to become the King of Grass Court. Grass courts are commonly considered to be the hardest court to play on and winning at Wimbledon is an exceptional achievement even among Grand Slams. Another reason Roger still has the advantage, however, is the fact that he has accumulated a record total of 19 titles on grass courts, including 10 Halle Open titles.
