Delray Beach History and Previous Winners
History
The inaugural edition of the Delray Beach Open was held in 1993. Back then, the tournament was known as America’s Red Clay Championships. True to its name, the first 7 editions of the event were played on a clay court in Coral Springs but from 1999 onwards, the tournament moved to its contemporary home in Delray Beach. Since then, the tournament’s name has changed, going from America’s Red Clay Championships to Citrix Tennis Championships, then from that to Delray Beach International Tennis Championships until its most recent moniker as the Delray Beach Open. Today, it is one of the last remaining ATP Champions Tour events in the world with many tennis legends returning for nostalgic exhibitionist matches.
