Madrid Open, which is also known as Mutua Madrid Open due to sponsorship, was held in Madrid in early May. Madrid Masters played on the outdoor red Clay surface of Caja Magica, Spain Madrid since 2009.
Before 2009 it was played indoor hard court surface of Madrid Arena. Madrid Open was founded in 2002. In 2012, the event was played on the blue court for a visual experiment but it wasn’t continued after some top players refused to play on it and the tournament returned to the traditional red clay.

21st ATP 1000 Madrid Open will start from 26 April 2023 to the 7th of May 2023. In the 2023 edition, the draw will be like 96 singles and 32 Doubles. The venue of the Madrid Open will be at La Caja Mágica of Madrid, Spain. The winner will get 1000 rating points with the runner-up’s 600 points.

Mutua Madrid Open 2023 Results
In the 2023 Madrid Open’s single championship, Seeded no 1 Carlos Alcaraz clinched the title against German star Jan-Lennard Struff. Spanish star won the final in 3 sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. By this, he won 10 ATP titles and 4th title this year. After back two back 2 titles, Barcelona Open and Madrid Open, Carlos become the world no 1 again.
While in the doubles championship, The Russian pair Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev, are proclaimed Champions of the Madrid Open 2023, defeating Australian Mathew Ebden and Indian Rohan Bopanna in the Grand Final of Men’s Doubles, in three sets 6-3 / 3-6 / 10-3. Russian pair claimed first doubles title together.

ATP Madrid Masters 2022 Results
Carlos Alcaraz wins Mututa Madrid Open singles title in 2022. He defeated the 2021 champion Alexander Zverev in the final, 6–3, 6–1. While in doubles championship, Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski defeated Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal with 6-7, 6-4, 10-5.
In 2021, the Singles champion was Alexander Zverev of Germany. Zverev won the final against Italian star Matteo Berrettini by 6-7, 6-4, and 6-3. On another side, in doubles, Marcel Granollers of Spain and Horacio Zaballos of Argentina won the doubles champion crown of 2021 against Croatian pair Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic.
Mutua Madrid Open History and Winners
The Mutua Madrid Open is a tennis tournament that has undergone several changes since its inception in 2002. Originally a men’s only event, it replaced the Eurocard Open in Stuttgart. From 2002 to 2008, it was an indoor hard court late-season event, followed by the ATP Tour Finals. In 2009, it was rebranded with new ownership and moved to a new location, surface, and time slot. The event now includes a women’s contest and moved outdoors to Park Manzanares, where a new complex was built. In June 2022, the ATP announced that the Mutua Madrid Open, along with the tournaments in Shanghai and Rome, would be held over two weeks starting in 2023.
Madrid Open have witnessed some top players in history. Spanish player Rafael Nadal has a record of 5 times Singles champion in total 8 finals. In doubles, American brothers Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan have a record of 5 times championships in total 7 finals. Roger Federer is the only player to win on all three surfaces of the Mutua Madrid Open (hard court 2006, red clay 2009, blue clay 2012).

Mutua Madrid Open 2023 Prize Money
In 2023, total commitment of ATP Madrid Masters is €8,796,536 in which prize money will be €7,705,780. The champion will get a cheque of €1,105,265 and doubles title holders will have €319,570 in their bag.
In 2022, Prize money was €6,744,165 however total financial commitment was €7,499,290. In 2021 prize money was too low due to the covid which was €3,226,325, where the winner of the singles got €315,160 and the winner of doubles got €62,760. While from 2016 to 2019 total prize money was €6,536,160.
